Our mission?
Refresh the room with a color palette that worked with the existing furniture, highlight the architectural beauty already there, and do it all while the home remained fully lived-in. No pressure.
A Room That Deserved Better
The living room was already impressive, with custom white crown molding, chair rail paneling, and a decorative column that gave the space real presence. But years of wear had left the residential paint looking tired. Walls showed uneven tones in certain lights, trim had lost its sharpness, and the overall space felt a bit flat.
To make matters trickier, the room flowed directly into the dining area with no dividing walls, which meant we had to be thoughtful about color transitions.
And with the home still furnished and occupied during the project, we had to work cleanly and carefully — no dragging furniture around, no splatter, and minimal disruption.
Painting With Precision
We started with careful surface prep, which is always key when working with detailed trim and custom moldings. That meant sanding, filling small gaps, caulking seams, and masking off areas to protect floors and furniture.
The room’s architectural complexity — from the crown molding and wainscoting to the curved column and arched openings — called for extreme attention to detail.
We chose a soft blue-gray for the walls, a tone that’s stylish yet subtle, and one that plays beautifully against crisp white trim. It immediately made the space feel more open and airy, and worked especially well with the homeowner’s existing decor.
For the trim, crown molding, and architectural elements, we used a clean, high-contrast white in a semi-gloss finish to bring out their form and texture.
The result? Every detail stood out.
Interior painting around those features took patience and precision. Arched doorways and intricate molding lines leave no room for error, and we made sure every edge was clean, every corner consistent.
With the dining area fully visible from the living room, we also ensured color continuity throughout the open-concept space — no mismatched tones or abrupt transitions.
